FAQ'S
You should see:
One connection to each bank that you have current accounts or savings with and are sharing with ThinCats:
- Each connection would show 1 or more accounts shared with Thincats with no indication in red text that the connection has failed
- Each connection would expire between 1 and 90 days in the future (if you reconsent monthly as we encourage, then the expiry days should remain well above 1 at all times)
This connection is a failed attempt:
- It shows “No data shared with Thincats”
- It also shows “Connection failed”
This connection was successful initially, but is currently not sharing any account information
- It shows “1 account shared with Thincats”
- But it also shows “Connection failed”
- Connections duplicating the accounts shared in another connection
- Connections that failed (e.g. because initially, you picked the wrong type of account when setting up the connection, or your credentials failed)
- Connections to a bank that you have switched away from and no longer have any active accounts
One “Connection” = one set of log-in credentials to your internet banking.
- For example, if you have 5 Barclays accounts, all accessed using the same login credentials for Barclays internet banking, then you would need one connection to Barclays and would be able to share all 5 (or just one / some of them if required) with ThinCats.
In most instances therefore you should have one connection to each bank that you are sharing accounts from.
Action: Click Reconnect and follow the instructions to confirm your consent and then re-authenticate your login details with your bank and select the bank account(s) to share with ThinCats.
Check: After completing the process, you should be returned to the Connections tab on the SaltEdge website. Check that the connection now shows:
- x account(s) shared with Thincats
- Expires in 90 days
- No message saying “Connection failed”
Action: Click Reconnect and follow the instructions to confirm your consent and then re-authenticate your login details with your bank and select the bank account(s) to share with ThinCats for each of the banks’ connections.
Check: After completing the process, you should be returned to the Connections tab on the SaltEdge website. Check that the connection now shows:
- x account(s) shared with Thincats
- Expires in 90 days
- No message saying “Connection failed”
Action:
- If you have accounts with the bank that you access via separate internet banking credentials, then you should click Reconnect and follow the instructions to confirm your consent and then re-authenticate your login details with your bank and select the bank account(s) to share with ThinCats
- If this is not the case, i.e. the connections provide access to the same bank accounts (clicking on the connection will show the accounts shared within it to allow you to check this), then you should reconnect one of the connections and delete the duplicate connections by clicking on the red bin and confirming you want to delete it
- Ideally, if one of the connections is still active and the duplicate(s) are expired or failed, reconnect the active one and delete the other(s)
- If both / all are active, reconnect the one that has longest to expire and delete the others (if they have the same time to expire, pick one at random to reconnect and delete the others)
- If both / all are expired, reconnect the one that expired most recently and delete the others
Check: Once you have completed these actions, your user dashboard should show:
- one connection per bank (unless you have separate login credentials for different accounts with the same bank)
- each connection showing
- x account(s) shared with Thincats
- Expires in 90 days
- No message saying “Connection failed”
- The bank account(s) they provide access to are closed / no longer in use and won’t be used
- You selected the wrong type of account (e.g. Barclays Corporate instead of Barclays Business) when signing up, and the failed attempt to connect to the incorrect account remains on your dashboard
Actions: Delete any connections that are not needed via the red bin on the right-hand side of the connection
Action: The only scenario where you should need to click the blue Connect Bank button is where you need to sign up accounts with a new bank that you are not already connected to.
